Apple’s iPad lineup could be up for a big overhaul in 2024.

Apple is said to be bringing a larger 12.9-inch version of the currently outgoing iPad Air in 2024, as per Ming-Chi Kuo. Here are the details.

Apple has not launched an updated iPad model in the entirety of this year, but this could be set to change soon as it allegedly refreshes its entire lineup next year. And, one update that could be coming to the iPad Air—is a larger 12.9-inch model joining the current 10.9-inch variant.

As per Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is said to be bringing a larger version of the currently outgoing iPad Air in 2024. This would launch alongside the updated 10.9-inch model with a next-generation chipset. These models are expected to go into mass production in Q1 2024.

Moreover, Ming-Chi Kuo further notes that this 12.9-inch iPad model would not have the mini LED display technology like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro; instead, it will ship with an LCD display. However, it would still look better than the 10.9-inch model as it would use an Oxide backplate (also used in iPad Pro 12.9-inch), and not an a-Si backplate.

Further, in his Medium post, Kuo also notes that Apple would launch new OLED iPad Pro models in late the first quarter of 2023 or the second quarter. Plus, these OLED models are expected to come with the latest M3 chipset, which Apple introduced during its ‘Scary Fast’ event last month. “The OLED iPad Pros will feature an M3 processor and improved form factor designs,” Kuo said.

“The OLED panels for the new iPad Pros will adopt the Tandem design and LTPO backplanes (the same backplanes used in the iPhone 15 Pros), outperforming the existing mini-LED iPad Pro in terms of display performance and power consumption,” he added.

As for the pricing, the iPad Air 10.9-inch could retain the price point, but the larger 12.9-inch variant would certainly be pricier. Kuo says that to maintain a price gap between the Air and Pro product lines, Apple may increase the iPad Pro OLED prices compared to outgoing LCD and mini LED models.
