France 0-0 Jamaica: Women’s World Cup 2023 – live reaction

Key events

Here are the reports from the earlier games today:

What are your thoughts on the red? Here’s the clip of the second yellow (some may not be able to view it as the clip is from ITV):

Even without Shaw, Jamaica have a good chance of beating Panama next time out. If they came away with a win it would see Jamaica with four points and puts them in a great position to progress to the knock-outs. This point is such a big result.

Dali will be hoping her second half performance will be enough to win her a starting shirt which is a similar story for England’s Rachel Daly. She has spoken at her frustration of Alessia Russo getting the nod at nine:

France did lack some sting in their attack, it transformed with the introduction of Dali, but they are really missing Katoto. Katoto has not played since the the Euros last summer because of an ACL injury.

Despite the red card Jamaica had a great performance. Before she was sent off Shaw was incredible in attack and drawing mistakes from France. I also thought Spence, Spencer, Blackwood and Swaby were particularly stand-out.

Usually red cards are debated but I think the Shaw one if the cleanest decision you’ll see. Two bookable challenges saw her off meaning she will miss Jamaica’s next game against Panama.

Full-time: France 0-0 Jamaica

What a result for Jamaica! They have won their first ever point at a World Cup. France had the chances to find a winner but they couldn’t find it. The only sour taste for Jamaica is that red card for Shaw.

90 + 7 min: France keep coming but Jamaica are doing the most to keep them out. Spence is fouled on the edge of the box – what a great evening the Tottenham player has had.

90 + 6 min: A huge roar as Spencer collects another cross in. The keeper has had a great evening.

90 + 5 min: Spencer take a bow. A captain down, France peppering the goal and the keeper makes two great interventions. She punches a chance away and then saves a Diani chance. Huge.

90 + 4 min: Jamaica need to hold on now, the red card cannot lead to a France winner. They have performed so well, just a few minutes to defend and hold up play.

90 + 3 min: That was needless, the tackle came in deep in France’s half – no immediate threat. Shaw will now miss the next game, a thoughtless move.

RED CARD! France 0-0 Jamaica (Shaw, 90+2′)

A silly tackle made on Renard and Shaw gets a second yellow. Wow.

90 + 1 min: There will be six minutes added, time for a winner to be found.

90 min: OH MY GOD! Diani has a header and it hits the crossbar and then the left-hand post, jeez. I thought that was in for sure!

89 min: Dali takes the corner and Lakrar leaps for a header, it is marginally over the bar! Wow, that was so close.

88 min: France are trying to find a winner here, if this remains a draw it will be a good result for Jamaica. Possession exchanging hands but France come through, Swaby concedes a corner.

87 min: Blackwood takes the corner, it’s frantic in the box and Shaw does get a shot off. It’s wide and the chance is gone.

86 min: Karchaoui is fouled by Wiltshire but the French player handballs and so the free kick goes Jamaica’s way. The free kick is in their own half and Spencer takes it. France manage to clear but they immediately see it out of play. Shaw then expertly wins a corner, could this be the moment?

84 min: Dali took it but it is easily dealt with.

84 min: France win a corner and Dali takes it quickly, Renard makes contact but Wiltshire clears! It comes back and out for another France corner. Also I realise my last post was not that clear, Shaw hobbled off to wait to come back on after she received treatment.

82 min: Shaw is okay to continue, great news for Jamaica but she is hobbling off the pitch.

81 min: I think she was fouled by Toletti, Shaw was gripping her lower leg and ankle. She is getting treatment now, definitely looks to be an ankle issue.

80 min: Cross is so deep, not a good take and a wasted opportunity. France come again but Jamaica do enough to disrupt them. Spence has been really good in making the France play uncomfortable for them. Shaw is down again, this time in a lot of pain.

78 min: Karchaoui in on the fancy footwork to win a throw in. It comes into the box but Diani can’t get on the end of it – France now having the majority of chances. Becho looks to cross in again and Blackwood makes another valuable intervention – she does concede a corner.

76 min: Blackwood hits a great ball but no Jamaica player is there to collect, unless that was a shot at goal? If it was that was very ambitious! Dali is fouled by Wiltshire and they take it on halfway. It comes to Diani who passes to Le Sommer – her shot is saved by Spencer.

74 min: She is accidentally hit in the head by Renard’s elbow but she is back up and okay.

73 min: The footwork from Dali! She weaves herself through the defenders, Jamaica manage to repel the attack but Dali has certainly brought another aspect to the game. Shaw is down once again with injury after a challenge from Renard.

72 min: Becho has another great cross but Spencer confidently collects. Wiltshire is fouled by Karchaoui and Jamaica have a free kick in their own half. Before they take it Primus and Matthews are off for Jamaica and Washington and Solaun are on. The free kick is taken but they are building from deep – a shot from Shaw is blocked from Cascarino.

70 min: Karchaoui looks frustrated as she believes she was fouled but the referee doesn’t give anything. The rain has started to pelt it down but it is not dampening the action as France come again, Karchaoui’s cross is closed down by Blackwood.

68 min: France make the first change with Majri and Mateo off for Dali and Becho. Becho is immediately in the action with a thumping long pass but she can’t quite find Le Sommer. The ball then comes to Dali, her cross is brilliant to Diani but her header is wide.

66 min: Toletti passes to Geyoro who tries to get a shot away but she’s offside. A huge pass comes to Matthews in the box but her shot is saved by Peyraud-Magnin. And there is immediate response from France but Toletti’s cross does not reach a teammate. A goal is coming!

64 min: The chance eventually comes to Spence on the edge of the box, she tries to find Shaw but it doesn’t reach her. Jamaica do have a throw in though with Swaby taking it. Shaw thought she had won a corner but it’s a goal kick.

62 min: Swaby looked as though she got a bit winded there but she is okay to continue. Jamaica win a free kick through Spence deep in their own half, they are building from deep as Spencer takes the kick.

60 min: France set up another attack with Lakrar laying it off into the box. Diani attempts a back heel pass but Jamaica deal with it. Kari has got in touch and said: “Les Bleues seem underprepared, which isn’t what I expect from a side coached by Hervé Renard. I’m worried that my pre-tournament prediction of France having an outside chance of the title might not age well.” I think they are growing into this game but I do agree the France prediction may not age well. I think they will get to the last eight.

58 min: Majri takes the corner, it’s a good delivery but it’s headed clear for another corner. Mateo takes it this time and Shaw deals with it to start, it comes to Toletti whose shot is over the bar.

57 min: Brown gets into the box and tries to lay it off to Shaw but France manage to clear. France get the ball in a good position and Lakrar attempts to cross but Brown sees it out for another corner.

56 min: France are full of beans now but Blackwood continues to be excellent in defence. She manages to keep Majri off the ball and out for a goal kick.

54 min: Majri is back at the set piece but Blackwood clears. It comes back with Le Sommer crossing to Diani but her header isn’t on target.

53 min: Possession is exchanging hands so quickly! It eventually comes away with a France attack, Lakrar crosses in but Blackwood deflects out, a corner to come.
