One person was killed and seven others sustained injuries in Bihar’s Hajipur after a vehicle allegedly hit pedestrians on Sunday morning.

The automobile was identified as a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) belonging to an unknown JDU leader who fled the spot with the driver after the accident, reported Times Now.

The SUV lost control and hit the people on the roadside in the early hours. People rushed to the injured and shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two victims have sustained serious injuries.

The accident comes under the limits of Jalalpur of Sarai police station.

Recently, three people died and two were critically injured after speeding vehicle of district magistrate (DM) of Bihar’s Madhepura hit them on National Highway 57 (NH57) in Madhubani.

The accident victims include a woman. Following the incident, angry locals blocked NH57.

“It is not immediately known whether the Madhepura DM was inside the car, the occupants of which fled the spot abandoning the vehicle. Apparently, the car was heading towards Darbhanga,” Madhubani Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar told news agency PTI.

He said that according to eyewitness accounts, the car was coming at a high speed and swerved sharply when the driver tried to avoid ploughing into a group of people crossing the road.

The incident occurred on National Highway number 57 at 8 am, killing three people on spot and critically injuring two others, police said. The injured were admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

After the accident, the vehicle rammed into the divider.

Locals claimed that the victims were walking on the road when the speeding vehicle of Madhepura DM mowed them down. DSP of Phulparas and SDO reached the spot following the accident and took control of the situation.

Villagers, who blocked the road post the accident, said they are also demanding service lanes on the stretch and compensation for the victims family.
