Amazon India has taken a significant step in fostering the skill development of women pursuing technical education by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This collaboration is an extension of Amazon’s initiative, Amazon WoW (Women of the World), specifically tailored to empower and equip women students enrolled in engineering colleges across India with essential skills to excel in the technology industry.

The programme is inclusive, welcoming women students currently pursuing a four-year BTech/BE or two-year MCA, M.Tech/ME programme, or a five-year dual degree. To ensure effective participation, each session will have limited slots that can be secured through RSVP. Participants are required to register for each session, gaining access to live sessions as well as recordings post-completion.

Designed to enhance key skills for thriving in the technology sector, the programme encompasses workshops on coding, problem-solving, tech interviews, and data structures and algorithms. This comprehensive approach aims to equip female students with the necessary skills for application and selection processes, fostering their success in the competitive tech industry.

An official release stated, “It will not only facilitate employment for women but also empower them to play a pivotal role in propelling India towards becoming a truly digital economy.”

Prof. T G Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, reportedly stating, “Amazon WoW will be an invaluable programme for women in engineering colleges across India. This initiative not only imparts essential skills, such as coding, but also opens doors to invaluable opportunities for industry exposure and soft skill development to young women. It truly embodies the spirit of progress in AICTE’s pursuit of a more inclusive and dynamic tech landscape.”

Amazon WoW has proven its effectiveness through over 40 sessions, during which more than 300 female students secured over 900 internships and full-time opportunities. Since its launch, the platform has garnered a substantial membership of over 298,000 individuals. Furthermore, participants benefit from one-on-one problem-solving sessions facilitated by senior employees at Amazon, reports Women Entrepreneur India.
